AI Engineering

AI That Works Inside Your Business, Not Beside It

We help organisations move from AI experiments to dependable systems that read documents, answer questions, predict demand and take routine work off people’s plates, connected to the tools teams already use.

Overview

What AI engineering means at White Messenger

A useful AI system is rarely just a model. It is a model plus the data it can trust, the business rules it must respect, the software it plugs into and the people who review its output. Our AI engineering practice treats all of those parts as one product.

We start from a specific task, such as triaging support tickets, drafting proposals or forecasting stock, and work backwards to the right technique. Sometimes that is a large language model with retrieval; sometimes a classic machine-learning model is cheaper, faster and easier to explain. Choosing well is part of the job.

Every engagement includes evaluation from day one. We agree what “good” looks like, build a test set that reflects your real cases, and measure the system against it before and after launch so that improvements are visible rather than assumed.

By department

Where AI helps across your organisation

Practical starting points, organised by the teams that typically benefit first.

Remove repetitive sorting, checking and re-keying from day-to-day operations.

  • Classify and route incoming requests, emails and forms to the right queue
  • Extract fields from invoices, delivery notes and contracts into your ERP
  • Flag exceptions such as mismatched quantities or missing approvals
  • Summarise shift handovers and incident logs for the next team

RAG

Retrieval-augmented generation, done carefully

Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) lets a language model answer using your documents instead of its general training. It is one of the most practical ways to put AI to work, and one of the easiest to get subtly wrong.

We pay close attention to the unglamorous parts: how documents are split and indexed, how permissions follow the content, how stale pages are retired, and how the assistant behaves when the answer simply is not in the source material.

How a RAG pipeline works

  1. 1

    Curate sources

Agree which repositories are authoritative and who owns them.

  2. 2

    Index with context

Chunk, embed and tag content with metadata such as department, date and access level.

  3. 3

    Retrieve and rank

Combine semantic and keyword search, then re-rank for relevance.

  4. 4

    Answer with citations

Generate a grounded response that links back to the exact source passages.

  5. 5

    Evaluate continuously

Track answer quality and unanswered questions to guide content fixes.

Integration

AI integration with the systems you already run

AI delivers value when its output lands where work happens: a ticket, a CRM record, an approval queue, a dashboard. We design the integration layer as carefully as the model itself, with retries, idempotency, logging and clear ownership of each data flow.

  • Connectors for CRM, ERP, help desk, document management and messaging platforms
  • Event-driven pipelines so AI steps run when data changes, not on manual triggers
  • Role-based access so the assistant only sees what the requesting user may see
  • Usage, cost and latency monitoring with alerts before budgets are exceeded

Responsible AI

Responsible AI considerations

Trust is a design requirement. These principles shape every AI system we build.

Data privacy by default

Minimise the personal data sent to models, mask sensitive fields and respect your data-residency requirements when choosing providers.

Human in the loop

Decisions with legal, financial or personal impact are routed to a person, with the AI’s reasoning and sources shown alongside.

Fairness checks

Where models score or rank people, we test outcomes across relevant groups and document known limitations.

Transparency

Users are told when they are interacting with AI, and answers show where information came from.

Monitoring and audit

Inputs, outputs and overrides are logged so behaviour can be reviewed, explained and improved.

Safety guardrails

Prompt-injection defences, content filters and allow-listed tool permissions limit what an AI system can do.

How we deliver

From opportunity to production

A staged approach that proves value early and scales what works.

  1. 1

    Opportunity mapping

Shortlist use cases by value, feasibility and data readiness.

  2. 2

    Proof of value

Test the riskiest assumption on real data within a fixed time box.

  3. 3

    Production build

Engineer integrations, guardrails, interfaces and evaluation suites.

  4. 4

    Launch and monitor

Roll out in stages with quality, cost and adoption tracking.

  5. 5

    Improve

Use feedback and new data to refine prompts, models and workflows.
